National Dog Day 2023: Krispy Kreme donuts, Busch pumpkin dog beer

Jun 01, 2023

As if you needed another reason to give your very good girl or boy a special treat, Saturday is National Dog Day, which means dog-centric deals and promotions from retailers nationwide.

National Dog Day was founded in 2004 by pet and family lifestyle expert Colleen Paige, according to Nationaldogday.com. Paige, a conservationist and author, has also founded other holidays such as National Puppy Day, National Mutt Day and National Cat Day.

Paige created the the holidays to "bring attention to the plight of animals around the globe and encourage adoption," the website says, estimating that millions of unwanted pets have been saved as a result.

National Dog Day is celebrated Aug. 26 every year because it is the date that Paige's family adopted her first dog, "Sheltie," from the local animal shelter when Paige was just 10 years old.

Here are some National Dog Day deals to help you celebrate your canine companion.

Pups can get in on the pumpkin spice trend with Busch Light's new limited edition Pumpkin Spice Busch Dog Brew ($15 for a 4-pack, shopbeergear.com).

The non-alcoholic, all-natural drink is made with pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric and water to refresh your dog.

This isn't Busch Light's first dog brew. In the past the company has released a port bone broth-based product and a Busch Light Turkey Brew, made with turkey broth.

Dunkin' will donate $1 for every iced latte ordered via the Dunkin' mobile app this Saturday to the Joy in Childhood Foundation to support the Dogs for Joy program, the company said.

The Dogs for Joy program is helping increase the number of dogs who work full-time in children's hospitals to bring joy to kids battling illness.

These dogs perform a range of tasks that help medical teams achieve their clinical goals, like keeping a child calm during a medical intervention or providing an incentive for a child to get out of bed and go for a walk, according to the program's website.

Starting this Saturday, Krispy Kreme will unleash Pup'kin Spice Doggie Doughnuts.

The treats are handmade, doughnut-shaped biscuits for dogs and will be available through Aug. 31, according to the company.

The new doggie doughnuts include the Pup'kin Spice Original Glazed, Pup'kin Spice Cake, Pup'kin Spice Maple Peanut and Pup'kin Spice Cheesecake Swirl.

The doggie doughnuts will be packaged in a special six-count box for purchase in-store or via the drive-thru, the company said.

In honor of National Dog Day, dogs can enjoy a free, fall-inspired Pumpkin Spice Pup Cup made of all dog-friendly ingredients.

The first 15 canine customers at each Scooter's Coffee store on Saturday will also receive a bandana imprinted with the Scooter's Coffee signature Smiley logo, the company said.

The company is also looking for the first-ever Scooter's Coffee Dogfluencer. To enter, customers must visit a Scooter's Coffee location on Aug. 26 and share a photo of their dog enjoying a pup cup with the hashtag #Scooters PupCup.

According to the news release, "pet parents will have greater access to Petco's curated selection of products supporting pets' whole health for on-demand delivery."

In honor of National Dog Day, DoorDash will offer 50% off customers' Petco order of $25 or more (up to $20) within the DoorDash mobile app or website from Aug. 21 to Aug. 27.

If you want a tattoo of your dog but don't want to pay for it, this might just be the promotion for you.

Dog parents can submit a photo of their dog and an explanation as to why they're the most deserving of the tattoo on their contest submission site.

Winners will be able to choose their own style, placement and artist, and BARK will reimburse them for the tattoo. In addition to a free tattoo, winners will also receive bonus products from BARK.

According to the company, the contest closes Sept. 8 and winners will be notified on or before Sept. 31.

From Aug. 26-28, pet parents can celebrate National Dog Day with 25% off on all dog products on ZestyPaws.com using the code AG25DOG.

Customers can also get free shipping on orders over $50.

Customers who get a drink at any Dutch Bros Coffee location Saturday during "Yappy Hour" (anytime after 3 p.m.) will get a National Dog Day themed bandana and a pup cup, the company said.

The bandanas will be available while supplies last.
