Weekend top picks: Kool and the Gang tribute band, Montgomery County Fair, 'Steel Magnolias' at Roxy

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery County Fair’s big finale is this weekend, and we also have a Kool and the Gang tribute band.

Montgomery County Fair: The Montgomery County Fair continues through Saturday, Aug. 5. Midway admission is $7 adults; kids 4-11 $4; 3 and younger free. Armbands, rides and event prices vary. Enjoy Amusement rides, fair food and live entertainment, including pig racing, Enduro Race, and Flat Track Bike Racing. The Montgomery County Fair is at the Clarksville Speedway & Fairgrounds, 1600 Needmore Road.

Downtown @ Sundown: A free concert series, this Friday, Aug. 4, featuring Hollywood Swingin’ (Kool and the Gang tribute band). Chairs and blankets are welcome; however, pets, coolers, smoking/vaping or outside alcohol are not allowed. Food and beverage trucks will be on site. The concert will be from 7-9 p.m. The Downtown Commons is at 215 Legion St.

‘Steel Magnolias‘: Come on down to Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. The drama opens this weekend and is on stage at the Roxy Regional Theatre through Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays; with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturdays. Tickets are $15 to $35. Emancipation Day Celebration: A free celebration of Emancipation Day, with hip hop DJ Folley, gospel singers, street performers, steppers, vendors, food and music. The event will be in front of Burt Cobb Center, at 1011 Franklin St. (Parking at 900 Franklin St., Fifth Ward Baptist Church). It will run from 5-10:30 p.m. Saturday Aug. 5.

Sunday on Strawberry: Local vendors will be selling everything from organic produce and fresh sourdough bread to handmade jewelry and crystals. The shops on Strawberry Alley will be participating, as well, with exclusive Sunday on Strawberry merch and storewide sales and specials. Cost of the event is Free and will be from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. Strawberry Alley is located at 108 North 2nd St.
